Materials > Celeste Felt

On most older pianos(generally straight strung) the left pedal operates a celeste. This is a length of white felt about 30mm wide that is glued to a wooden rail and is raised between the hammers and the strings to quieten the sound. On modern pianos the left pedal moves the hammers closer to the strings and thus aims to achieve the same effect.If it has a middle pedal then this will operate a celeste rail attachment, the felt for this is wider and so you will need to go to celeste Felt Wide
